Although what was once Fourth Ward is now referred to as "Midtown," there are a few historic reminders of what was once a thriving predominantly African-American community post slave era.
Modernization was once the backdrop for this area, as seen here via Houston's skyline. However, gentrification has taken over, and the majority of the historic remnants of the 4th Ward community are disappearing. The question is, will the memories and contributions of 4th Ward to Houston's African-American community be forgotten as well?
